The Third Finger is a Lie (1998)
This experimental short film was produced in Austin, Texas during the summer of 1998. It was shot on super 8 film, edited with razor blades and a borrowed hand crank projector. In early 2000 the film was transferred to digital video via projection and edited in Adobe Premier. The story is about 2 persons finding themselves confronted with a supposed doppelganger. We could have murder, pre-meditated suicide, or a bad dream. This is an attempt to explore the troubled area of the subconscious and purvey horror by obscuring the sources. An Unavoidable Excess of Movement (2000)
This piece is a work in progress, an extract from a former project which required a 15 second low resolution clip without sound. Here the clip has been looped along with an ethereal soundtrack. Future plans for this piece are to include an additional dozen or so clips appearing randomly througout the quadrant. Ideally this would be presented as a video installation in a large dark room with projections on each wall, soundtrack and pictures looping infinitely. The intention is to purvey the dreamlike quality of frenzy when witnessed from contemplative points of view and also to contrast contradictory sensations such as innocence, fast moving heavy machinery, the Brooklyn Bridge exploding, city time passing from a narrow view in the park. Life is an Unavoidable Excess of Movement. This piece is a work in progress (a proof of concept). Camera: Angela Alston, Ezekiel Das |
